This study showed that online misogyny coincides with domestic and family violence. The researchers demonstrated this by looking at the relation between the frequency of misogynistic tweets on Twitter and incidents of domestic and family violence reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Misogynistic tweets in more than 400 areas in 47 U.S. states from 2013 to 2014 were included and showed that misogynistic tweets were a positive predictor of domestic and family violence 1 year later.
